Term Definition
Chromosome Where the DNA of a cell is organized; threadlike bodies consisting of chromatin
Mitosis The process of chromosome separation during the second stage of the cell cycle
Cell Cycle The life cycle of a cell
Daughter Cell Genetically identical to the parent cell
Mutation DNA gene is damaged/ changed in such a way as to alter the genetic message carried by that gene.
Diploid Having two sets of chromosomes
Chromatid One of two identical strands into which a chromosome splits during mitosis
Interphase Period of cell cycle where nucleus is not undergoing division
Cytokinesis Division of cytoplasm during cell division
Spindle Fibers Pulls apart cell during replication
Centromere Part of chromosome that appears during cell division
Chromatin DNA that makes up chromosomes found in nucleus
